Scoops
Scoops (School Cooperatives) is a school-based project. It offers the students the opportunity to experience the actual running of a business based on the cooperative model. A cooperative is set up by a group of people together to form a business enterprise and offer products and/or services. All the members of the cooperative actively participate both in the work and in all the decisions taken.

The scoops team is made up of 18 students (ranging from Form 1 to Form 3) under the guidance of two teacher managers, Mr. Martin Bugeja and Ms.Denise Muscat. Ms. Mary Rose Meli (Outlook Coop) supervises the progress of the whole group. The group meets twice a week during the Mid-day breaks. The committee, led by Janalese Calleja (304) was elected democratically from amongst the students and every member bought a share in the business.
The team is producing hand made models of traditional Maltese carts out of wood, cardboard and other materials. The actual product involves a substantial amount of preparation. Each model is painted and decorated in a realistic manner.
One of the aims of the project is to enhance our business and make profits by selling the products. So far, we have had positive feedback regarding the product. By the end of the scholastic year, the Scoops team is planning to produce a good number of models, most of which will be sold during the Annual Scoops Fair.
On Friday, 19th of January 2007, the whole team was invited to participate in an outside school event organized by Outlook Coop. Vetrina Scoops was a great opportunity for both teachers and students to meet and work closely with other Scoops members from different schools. It was also an ideal opportunity to showcase our product.
